More About Brian Mathers – The Website Managers Engine Driver
Brian Mathers has spent over 20 years learning SEO search engine optimisation. He started learning about the Internet in 1997.
Previously Brian spent 22 years as a tactical analyst Ops Officer onboard a submarine, as the – WHAT IF GUY.
In 1998 a search engine previously called – BACKRUB – that had been warming up on the side lines arrived on the scene and took centre stage with a name now known the world over – GOOGLE – which made the decision to really begin learning what the internet was going to offer.
In the early years time was spent learning as much as possible about how to market online. This led to lots of question being an analyst.
Explain the benefits of having a website presence.
How to choose a good website platform?
What was considered the Best Practice approach to design, build a website and being a Website Manager?
Becoming a Website Manager
Brian Mathers didn’t want to build the websites initially. Instead he wanted to learn how to drive them towards achieving success. The challenge was getting a website indexed and visible.
Between the years 1998 to 2000 baby steps were taking towards – how to become a website manager. The job of a website involves having to gain an understanding of what performance data is available to the website manager to that will assist with important decision making to improve website design and begin the task of learning visitor behaviour. New tasks were added to the Website Managers weekly list of jobs such as – How to Produce Engaging Website Content. And can you believe in those early years the website platforms were brand names such as Dreamweaver, Contribute, Frontpage or simply just building a very raw looking website from having basic HTML coding knowledge. Something every website manager still needs today.
From Internet Communications Technology Advisor to Website Consultant
In the years 2000-2003 Brian Mathers was to become involved in a new course qualification called TECHNOLOGY MEANS BUSINESS (TMB). Gaining this qualification would help to endorse your credentials in becoming an Internet Communications Technology Advisor a course that was to help you into a Website Managers role.
After achieving the qualification at the time endorsed by Scotland’s Public Sector organisations, in 2003 Brian Mathers decided to form ICTADVISOR. Now, all his time was spent throwing everything into delivering SEO Services to assist Small Businesses in Scotland have in-house Website Managers.
His work now also included delivering Internet Marketing Workshops with topic titles like:
- How to Build Search Engine Friendly Websites
- Get Real Results from Your Website
- Improve Your Search Engine Marketing
- Learn about Google Marketing Products.
But those early website workshops weren’t enough, because still at this stage nobody was practicing what could be considered best practice. It could not be found being delivered anywhere.
Brian Mathers spent lots of time in forums online or chatting to other who held group meetings up and down the country. Many who attended now sporting the job title of SEO Expert.
Brian had to in the end give up ever finding anyone delivering SEO Marketing Best Practices in the UK. Then an opportunity arose to jet off to New York USA for the first ever Search Engine Strategies Conference. A 5 day event held at the Hilton in the heart of NYC. Brian Mathers felt he had arrived in SEO Best Practice Heaven. Here he met face to face people he later labelled the most trusted voices of the Internet Marketing Industry. He had read about and researched these people’s methodologies and approach to Internet Marketing, but now he could feel the energy of what was Best Practice SEO being discussed on stage at what would become a global annual event held in different countries around the world.
