The role of us being Internet Marketing Practitioners (Website Managers) involves us helping business owners put in place and manage fit for purpose websites.
My name is Brian Mathers, and I could sit down and write here a 100 reasons what benefits a business owner will gain having me and my team help them go out and buy a website, then ensure they have invested in something that will work. It will have to be a website that comes with the minimum amount of features to make it both admin friendly and search engine friendly. These are people who will just plug thing together and not provide a website that might need to be equipped with some important features needed for the website to do its job.
The Digital Content Marketing Strategy Needed to Support the Promoting of Your Online Business
A good title for the Internet Marketing person in your organisation is – Digital Marketing Practitioner. The person in this role is as important to your business as is your accountant or your lawyer. Just like how you rely upon the accountant to keep on top of finance and the lawyer handling your legal affairs your Digital Marketer is responsible for the Content Marketing Strategy. This is a constant rinse and repeat role. A good Digital Marketing Practitioner has a checklist of some 280 tasks a month to keep them occupied.
Whilst they are dealing with the Content Marketing Strategy it means you as the business owner can carry on doing the job you set out to do – deliver your products or services.
Most business owners in the micro and SME community don’t have time to do internet marketing. Most business owners don’t have at least 3 years knowledge to really get to grips with understanding on the page SEO – search engine optimisation or technical SEO. You also don’t have the time to learn how to become a professional PPC (Paid Ads) Manager.
Let’s not forget there is also time in the day where someone needs to be involved being a Link Builder. After doing all those practical marketing tasks, what about measuring website performance? Now you have to learn how to become a Website Analyst or Web Performance Auditor. Let’s face it, if you are a roofer, a kitchen installer, a racing car parts specialist, a pressure company, or running an ecommerce business selling cleaning equipment, whatever you have turned your hand towards delivering, you don’t have time | resource | knowledge | and at times budget as the micro small business to do all things that add up to Internet Marketing .
Why You need a Professional Website Manager
I am very happy with my title and role as a professional website manager. For the simple reason I am never out of work and nor are members of my team who assist me. I also know that times are changing and internet marketing is changing. There are other titles I could add to that CV. Media Marketing Manager, and Online Business Growth Specialist.
There is a lady I have never met in my life, her name is Lori Osterberg I came across in this article that sums up nicely the definition of an Online Business Growth Specialist. I liked what she had to say. And so with 20years of experience behind us here having grown up with Google since 1998 you get to know what the core principles are when doing Internet Marketing in order to grow online.
Social Media, Digital Marketing, Video Marketing are all words that are contained in your job statement that could give you a more grand title of being a Media Marketing Manager. Mainly within recruitment websites do we tend to see job titles such as Digital Media Marketing Manager or Social Media Marketing Manager.
More recently businesses have asked recruitment agencies to find them a Content Marketing Manager. This is because business owners listen to buzz words trending on various channels and hear that Content Marketing is the be all and all of all the skills needed to run a website.
You will read things like – if your not doing content marketing and applying the new rules of marketing then your not in vogue. Yet, when you have audited and analysed lots of websites with the owners claiming to have done a ton of marketing courses (some which they might have attend like over the last 12 months) and yet you find that their website is still not performing?
The business claims it has wrote some content and even consider it engaging. unfortunately, they hadn’t really learned all the other rules they need to have under their belts to actually manage a website properly. And, sorry, if you are leaving your marketing tasks to your web developer or worse still your IT Department – you really do need to change the way you are doing your marketing. It is easy to see just how many websites in the UK alone are performing badly. What is interesting is how the website was built, how the brief was put together, then handed over to the developer or agency. But that is where it then potentially goes wrong. What you then got delivered as a website somehow did not meet with your expectations. Why?

Many small business websites fail. The reason they fail is that most of the time the business owner does not know how to prepare him or herself to go out and buy the website.

So, over the years, some of these businesses have ended up going backwards to only having someone with around 5 years of proper experience in the marketing department. And guess what? Even this big brand companies are hiring stablished Internet Marketing Specialists to get the help they and their teams need in order to get fully up to speed with what they should really be doing when it comes to marketing the company website.

Being a great believer in having been exposed to lots of Micro/Small Business Owners, over the last 20years with a website, well, it ended up having take in hand the destiny of that website achieving some success. There is no doubt that who knows more about the business and what it offers, is you business owner. But be honest, you are going to need educated on how to be a good website manager, a creative journalist in being able to create engaging content and actually get some sales from actually driving people towards this online investment called a website.
